So basically what first thing comes to your mind you hear the word ‘India’ …Poverty? Huge Population? Hindi toilets? Lots of noise? culture? and so on.
The media in foreign countries have been showing only the bad sides of India like they tend o perceive India through the lens of rape, poverty or Hindu nationalism. Well, all them are true but it doesn’t mean India sucks. There is a lot of things to do and see in India.
I will be telling you some of the misconceptions, Foreigners have about India and their reality-
Hindi As Official Language
Foreigners Think- Most of the foreigners think that Hindi is the official language of India, But no that’s not true. Wanted to know reality?
Reality- There are total of 22 official languages in India
Cow Worshippers
Foreigners Think- All Indians are Cow worshippers
Reality- Cows are considered holy by the Hindus but considering it’s a diverse nation there are various other communities that consume beef.
Slums and Poverty everywhere
Foreigner thinks- There is only slums and poverty in India.
Reality- India is a Developing Country, and I think the above picture is sufficient to show how it is developing gradually.
Indians are Uneducated
Foreigners Think- This is probably the worst and most inaccurate misconception that Indians aren't educated.
Reality- The truth is that education is extremely important in India. Even poor village families strive to give their children the best education possible because they know it's the key to a better future.
All Indian Women Wear Sarees

Foreigners Think- They think that all Indian women wear saree.
Reality- The salwar kameez is popular for everyday wear, especially in north India. Lehengas are also replacing sarees as popular wedding attire in the north. All of them are Indian dress.
Arranged Marriages are Force
Foreigners Think- foreigner thinks that arrange marriage are forced in India.
Reality- In India, many people readily choose to have arranged marriages, as it's a convenient way of finding a compatible partner when they want to settle down.
All Indian food is spicy
Foreigner Think- According to them All Indian foods are spicy
Reality- No, not all Indian foods are spicy there's the calming South Indian curd rice which is like a cool dip for your tummy
There are Elephants and Snakes Charmers everywhere
Foreigners Think- There are snakes charmers and elephants all around the Indian street.
Reality- This is one of the most ridiculous myth all over the world. The streets of India filled with anything but not snake charmers and we hid elephants inside the Wildlife sanctuaries.
